Introduction: Femoral neck fractures moreover are more common among the female elderly patients, especially in those above 60 years of age. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of bipolar hip prosthesis (Uncemented) in intracapsular ractures of neck of femur in certain cases and various modalities to be followed and to assess the functional outcome of bipolar hemiarthroplasty in intracapsular fractures in elderly patients. The prosthesis was impacted with gentle blows in to the medullary canal and then finally the prosthesis was reduced in to the acetabulum.
Materials and Methods: A total of 65 patients with femoral neck fracture were included into the study. The surgery was performed by the extraction of the head of femur by the posterolateral approach.
Results: The outcome of the surgery was excellent in more than 75% of the cases. Among the complications post-surgery, there was superficial infection in 4.6% of the patients, 3.1% had dislocation of prosthesis without loosening of the stem and close reduction done Under C-Arm, Limb length discrepancy in 9 patients, in which shortening was noted in 6 patients and shrinking of stem in medulary cavity of femur in three patients for which total hip joint replacement was done.
Conclusion: In our study, Bipolar hemiarthroplasty (Uncemented) was a very effective mode of repair for intracapsular fracture of the neck of femur.
